What I’m going to show you in this lesson assumes that you’re very familiar with Mateus Asato’s latest music.

I’m going to demonstrate for you how I go about manipulating music to a point where it’s, well… no longer a cover, but a unique rendition.

In this video lesson I will break down two songs:

  • The Breakup Song;
  • Cryin’.

I’ll teach you the chord progressions, the music theory behind them, and also how to visualise the chords so that you can add them to your vocabulary.

Then once you have a grasp of the framework of these songs, I’ll show you how I would go about manipulating them into a unique version/reharmonisation.

If you enjoy this lesson, but want more insight into my approach on guitar, I’d love to see you here on Fretwise. Members of Fretwise will learn in much greater detail about what and how to practice if you want to visualise and understand the fretboard on a much deeper level.

Darryl Syms has been teaching guitar for more than 15 years, and in that time has helped thousands of students across the world excel on guitar.
